Andalusia Attractions, Day Trips
Mijas (20 minutes by car from the apartment)
One of the most picturesque villages in Andalusia, Mijas, or more specifically Mijas Pueblo, is situated in the mountains of the Costa del Sol at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level. The village is home to the Ferias bullring, the oldest bullring in Spain.
What do donkeys have to do with Mijas?
The town has a „Burro taxi”, a 20-25 euro taxi service that takes you on a 20 minute ride around Mijas, where cars are no longer allowed, and even saves you a lot of effort. There is also a curious donkey taxi rank where the four-legged taxi drivers rest, some of them even with a number plate on their foreheads 🙂
Through the main square of the village we reach a terrace with a wonderful view of Mijas Costa.

Fuengirola (15 minutes)
Fuengirola is situated 40 km from Malaga, at the foot of the Sierra de Mijas, although it is a popular tourist destination, it is more Spanish than Benalmadena, despite its tall buildings. It is an ideal holiday destination for families and the seniors. Fuengirola is famous for its 7 km of clean, well-maintained sandy beach. Although its popularity makes it very urbanised, there are many historical monuments (e.g. the remains of a roman villa) and parks, you can also enjoy the old and new harbour, where fresh fish arrives every week. On the beach you can find numerous restaurants and activities.
In the Bioparc Zoo you can admire the flora, fauna and other natural beauties of Andalusia and the rest of the world. It is an interesting and varied zoo. The animals have plenty of space and are separated from the visitors by as few obstacles as possible, most of them natural.

From Sohail Castle you can see the whole coastline. It is not advisable to enter the castle, but the views are worth the climb. The street market also worth a visit on Tuesdays and Saturdays: an authentic Spanish market, where you can buy fresh, juicy Spanish fruit. Fuengirola’s bullring still hosts regular bullfights.

Whoever is looking for a day of fun can also spend a day at the Aquamijas water park. For the little ones there is a special adventure pool, a wave pool, zumba in the water with entertainers and, for the more adventurous, a variety of slides to round off the day.

Benalmadena (35 minutes)
is located 12 km west of Malaga, between Torremolinos and Fuengirola, it is one of the main holiday destinations on the Costa del Sol. Ideal for families, it also has an important nightlife. Benalmadena offers a wide selection of attractions.
The town is divided into three parts: the original village, Benalmádena Pueblo, rises 200 metres above sea level. Beautiful white houses, numerous bars and restaurants tempt you to stroll through its ancient streets. It is a completely different world from the holiday centre, with an authentic old Spanish atmosphere.

Benalmádena Costa is a place of beaches, hotels, marina and discotheques. Its 8 km of beach is not as fine and beautiful as those of other towns on the Costa del Sol, but they do their best to keep them as clean as possible.

Also worth a visit is the marina of Puerto Marina, with its unique architecture and great beauty. The nightlife of the town is also concentrated there, as well as in the 24 hour square.
